V DAY (ONE BILLION RISING)

February 14, 2013, millions participated in a global strike, marking the largest synchronized event to end violence against women. OBR was the creation of Eve Ensler and her social justice organization V-Day, who approached NSP to serve as the lead facilitator for all events in the Chicago area, as well as key producer of the city’s flagship rally, march and event. OBR is a benchmark example of why NSP is clearly qualified to take on as auspicious a plan as “Chicago Dinners.” With this production, we:

• Empowered students, activists, artists, educators, and everyday citizens to facilitate their own OBR events, resulting in over 30 micro-events that took place on campuses, in event spaces and even in Union Station.

• Coordinated with the city and social justice organizations (Rape Victim Advocates, A Long Walk Home, and more)

to hold a peaceful rally at Daley Center, attended by nearly 1,000 people.

• Created a Public Service Announcement involving the participation of Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, WBEZ personality Alison Cuddy, chanteuse JC Brooks (JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound), and members of the Windy City Rollers derby team.

• Secured significant attention from from major media outlets, including Fox News, NBC News, Huffington Post, the Chicago Reader, DNAinfo, Chicago Magazine, and Gapers Block.
